Without a duct: Turbulence

Without a duct, air entering the wheel well has no direct route to the fender vents. While some air will eventually find its way out, much of it becomes trapped inside the fender cavity. The result is turbulent and disorganized airflow that causes drag and lift, with air circulating within the fender or escaping into the engine bay rather than efficiently exiting through the vents. This turbulence increases aerodynamic drag and reduces the effectiveness of your fender vents.

BTI's AC Duct solves this problem by creating a dedicated airflow path from the wheel well liner directly to the fender vent. By channeling air where it needs to go, the AC Duct maximizes vent efficiency and promotes cleaner, more controlled airflow, reducing drag and producing downforce.

To develop BTI's AC Duct, we began by 3D scanning a GT500 equipped with vented fenders, capturing the complex geometry of the wheel well, fender interior, and all surrounding obstructions. That scan data was then imported into a virtual reality design environment, where we recreated the fender and engineered the duct directly around the vehicle's structure.

This process allowed us to precisely route the duct around obstacles while ensuring it attached exactly where intended. By leveraging advanced scanning and virtual reality design technology, we were able to create a highly complex component that fits as though it were designed by the factory—because, in a sense, it was designed directly within the car itself.

Every contour and crease in its shape was intentional, carefully engineered to weave around the transmission control unit, cables, and mounting bolts.
